Silverlight 4 Out-of-Browser Application
Silverlight 4 extends the out-of-browser capabilities pioneered in Silverlight 3 that allow a user’s Web presence to establish closer, more persistent relationships with customers without any additional runtime download or the need to write applications in a different way.

Having already announced the general availability of Visual Studio 2010, Microsoft went on to announce that Silverlight 4 has released to Web (RTW). Together these technologies simplify the development process, enabling developers to target new platforms, with high-quality applications.

Silverlight 4 offers powerful media and business application capabilities that enable developers to deliver compelling application experiences on or off the Web. New features in Silverlight 4 include extended out-of-browser capabilities, enhancements for enterprise application developers, and more than 60 customisable pre-written controls to quickly build rich, interactive applications.

To begin developing Silverlight 4 applications you should first install Visual Studio 2010 , then install the Silverlight Tools for Visual Studio 2010 . The Silverlight tools setup includes the Silverlight 4 Developer Runtime, Silverlight 4 SDK, RIA Services, and Visual Studio 2010 tools support. You can then use the new WYSIWYG Silverlight designer in Visual Studio 2010 to design and build engaging, interactive user experiences for Web, desktop and mobile applications.
