Sometimes the simplest ideas are the best, and if a Windows-based client that lets you plug into a variety of database servers, design queries and reports, save results and update records sounds like a good idea, then Californian vendor Unify has just the thing. Unify Q works with Oracle 10g and 11g and SQL Server 2005 and 2008, as well as the company’s own SQLBase and ODBC sources. Using an Office 2007-style interface, it provides a graphical query builder with table joining hints and single-click report generation, plus a detailed report builder with support for images, graphs and crosstabs. Unify Q aims to simply database access for everyone from managers to developers and end-users.
Reports can be saved as PDF documents, while query results can be saved in a variety of formats including Excel, XML and HTML. Power users can edit and import data, and use an SQL designer to build complex queries and update scripts. For less powerful users the package can also be installed in read-only mode.
Unify Q runs on Windows versions from XP onwards and comes in a selection of languages including English, German, French and Spanish. If you don’t have a database server to connect to, Unify throws in a single-user copy of SQLBase to get you started. |
