ComponentOne has released the 2010 version of its Studio Enterprise component super-bundle. Heading the new features list are Visual Studio 2010 compatibility and a new AJAX framework with jQuery and DynamicData 4.0 support. Also included are new Winform controls, extra WPF controls ported from Silverlight, Silverlight 4.0 support and migration of ComponentOne’s iPhone web app controls to other leading smartphones.
App Store approval not required: ComponentOne’s Studio for iPhone provides a VS2010-based platform for developing iPhone Web Apps.
Enterprise Studio comprises seven of ComponentOne’s Studio suites, covering WinForms, WPF, ASP.NET, Silverlight, iPhone, Mobile and ActiveX. New in Studio for Winforms are linear and radial gauge controls, Excel-style filtering in FlexGrid and Microsoft Reporting Services (RDL) support. Six of ComponentOne’s Silverlight controls now have WPF versions, including an Outlook-style Scheduler with design-time Blend 3 and VS2010 support, plus date and time editors and docking and tab controls. The Grid and Chart for WPF controls are also improved, with aggregate charts and better grouping/sorting performance.
ComponentOne’s Studio Enterprise 2010 includes new radial and linear gauge controls for WinForms.
Studio for ASP.NET AJAX 2010 is a major upgrade, with support for the jQuery javascript library, ASP.NET Dynamic Data and AJAX 4.0. New features include client-side data binding and the ability to use C1 controls in DynamicData templates, plus new ReportViewer and linear/radial gauge controls. All this is supported by an all-new framework, named A2.
ComponentOne’s Silverlight controls are now compatible with Silverlight 3 and 4, although full access to Silverlight 4 features will be in a forthcoming version. In the meantime improvements include major performance gains in the DataGrid control, PDF export from RichTextBox and transparent pages in the Book control.
With Apple tightening its App Store approval rules (see Adobe CS5 story below), Web-based Apps are looking increasingly attractive. Studio for iPhone 2010 provides a VS2010-based platform for targeting mobile Safari, complete with new jQuery integration and now support for other ‘top smart phones’ including the Android platform, Nexus One and Palm Pre. All the 2010 Studio suites also remain available as individual products.
